    Android in enterprise environments

    Android for Work

Android for Work (AFW) is a set of tools and APIs provided by Google that allow organizations to manage Android devices in corporate environments. It offers separation between personal and work data by creating an isolated work profile, ensuring the security of business information without compromising user privacy.

    Among its main features are:

    • Job Profile: Isolate corporate apps and data from personal device use.
    • Application Management: Enables the distribution and configuration of enterprise applications through managed Google Play.
    • Security policies: Enables the enforcement of password, encryption, and usage restrictions.
    • BYOD and COPE compatibility: Supports scenarios where the device is owned by the user or the company.

    Android Management API

Android Management API (AMAPI) is a programming interface provided by Google that allows EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management) solution providers to manage Android devices programmatically. Unlike traditional management methods, AMAPI offers direct integration with Google services without the need for a proprietary agent on the device.

    Its main advantages include:

    • Agentless management: It does not require the installation of an additional management app on the device.
    • Simplified provisioning: Allows device configuration via QR code, NFC, or Zero-Touch enrollment (the latter two not supported by the product at the time).
    • Centralized policies: Makes it easy to enforce security policies, application restrictions, and network configurations from a centralized console.
    • Automatic updates: Google maintains API compatibility and updates, reducing maintenance effort.
