For the generation and processing of inventories, the following instances must be taken into account:
Source of Inventories Uncovered by the Agent
The information for each device is obtained in several ways:
- At the time of discovery through protocols agent-less, such as SNMP and WMI, basic device information such as type, operating system, and IP is captured.
- When the agent is first installed, a summary inventory is sent, which contains more complete information, but without a high level of detail.
- When the agent is installed and has already sent its first inventory, it continues with high-level of detail inventories of all types.
Inventory Packages
ADM inventory packets travel encrypted to prevent data leakage. Packets generated by agents are temporarily stored in local folders on the device until they can be sent to their respective Keep.
⚐ Note: Each management module in ADM has its own type of inventory, therefore, there are inventories of assets, patches, usage metrics, files, and energy.
Inventory Package Size
Packets can be fractioned and incrementally generated by the agent to avoid saturating the network with very large packets. An inventory can have a size minimum of less than 1 KB. The maximum sizes are in the table below:
Maximum inventory size | |
---|---|
HW/SW | 100KB |
Total Files | 1MB |
Patches and Updates | 4 KB |
Energy | 1KB |
Use | 10KB |
⚐ Note: The size of inventories must be taken into account for the calculation of the bandwidth consumed by the solution.
⚐ Periodic registration of agents: Bandwidth consumption is also affected by the fact that agents perform the logging operation every five minutes (this is configurable). This record consists of a call to the server, through the respective conservators, to update the identification information. An agent’s first record carries basic inventory information and weighs about 1.5 KB. From then on, each record is approximately 0.25 KB
